6th Edition of the International Piano Competition “Città di Minerbio” 

August 30 - September 4, 2022

AGE CATEGORIES AND REPERTOIRE.

The Competition is articulated in 4 categories, divided by age (I up to 17 years of age, II up to 20 years of age, III up to 23 years of age, IV up to 26 years of age). Each category includes a preselective round (a video, to be sent from April 15, 2022, to June 15, 2022, deadline for enrollments) and two live rounds on stage (first round, second round) with obligatory repertoire. No more than 20 candidates will be selected and admitted for each category.

PRESELECTIVE ROUND.

The preselective round must have a duration between 8 and 10 minutes for categories I and II and a duration between 10 and 15 minutes for categories III and IV.

Candidates must perform:

  • The first movement of a classical sonata or a prelude and fugue from the Well-Tempered Clavier by J. S. Bach.
  • A brilliant character study by F. Chopin or F. Liszt.
  • Any free pieces (not mandatory).

Competitors must specify the link on the online registration form, link previously uploaded privately on the Youtube digital platform. The pieces must be recorded in a single recording session. The video must be of good quality with a fixed shot, showing the candidate's face and hands. The pieces performed in the preselective round can be performed in one of the two following rounds. A list of the admitted competitors will be published on June 30, 2022.

Cat. I: up to 17 years of age.

Two rounds: first round, second round. The first round will have a duration of 8 minutes and a free program but must include a piece from the Baroque period or the Classical period *. The second round will have a duration of 15 minutes and a free program but must include a piece from the Romantic period and cannot include any piece performed in the first round.

Cat. II: up to 20 years of age.

Two rounds: first round, second round. The first round will last 8 minutes and will have a free program but must include a piece from the Baroque period or the Classical period * and a concert studio. The second round will have a duration of 20 minutes and a free program but must include a piece from the Romantic period and cannot include any piece performed in the first round.

Cat. III: up to 23 years of age.

Two rounds: first round, second round. The first round will last 10 minutes and free program but must include a piece from the Baroque period or the Classical period * and a concert studio. The second round will have a duration of 25 minutes and a free program but must include a piece from the Romantic period and cannot include any piece performed in the first round.

Cat. IV: up to 26 years of age.

Two rounds: first round, second round. The first round will last 15 minutes and will have a free program but must include a piece from the Baroque period or the Classical period * and a concert studio. The second round will have a duration of 30 minutes and a free program but must include a piece from the Romantic period and cannot include any piece performed in the first round.

Elucidations * 

Pieces of the Baroque period or the Classical period: pieces by Bach, Haendel, Scarlatti, Rameau or another author of the same period (single pieces from suites, partitas, etc. are also allowed) or

pieces by Haydn, Mozart, Clementi, Beethoven or another author of the same period, such as sonata, rondo, theme and variations, etc.

The Festival will be articulated in 6 categories for piano solo (Cat. FIRST NOTES up to 6 years of age, Cat. JUNIOR up to 8 years of age, Cat. A up to 10 years of age, Cat. B up to 12 years of age, Cat. C up to 14 years of age, Cat D up to 16 years of age). It will be possible to register from April 15, 2022, to July 31, 2022. Registrations may close before the deadline once the limit number of 70 enrolled participants is reached.

Each category includes a single round and may include obligatory repertoire.

Cat. FIRST NOTES: up to 6 years of age. The round will have a duration of 3 minutes and a free program.

Cat. JUNIOR: up to 8 years of age. The round will have a duration of 5 minutes and a free program.

Cat. A: up to 10 years of age. The round will last 6 minutes and free program but must include a piece from the Baroque period or the Classical period *.

Cat. B: up to 12 years of age. The round will last 8 minutes and free program but must include a piece from the Baroque period or the classical period *.

Cat. C: up to 14 years of age. The round will last 10 minutes and will have a free program but must include a piece from the romantic period.

Cat. D: up to 16 years of age. The round will last 12 minutes and will have a free program but must include a piece from the romantic period.

Elucidations * 

Pieces of the Baroque period or the Classical period:

pieces by Bach, Haendel, Scarlatti, Rameau or another author of the same period (single pieces from suites, partitas, etc. are also allowed) or

pieces by Haydn, Mozart, Clementi, Beethoven or another author of the same period, such as a sonatina tempo (only for the first two categories) or sonata, rondo, theme and variations, etc.
