After the great success of the 2023 Edition, we are happy to announce the 8th edition of the "Città di Minerbio" International Piano Competition for Young Pianists, and the 8th edition of the International Festival for Young Pianists “Città di Minerbio”, which will take place from October 1-6 2024, at the "Teatro Minerva" Minerbio (BO). The 8th edition wants to propose itself in a perspective of continuity with the previous ones, both as regards the objectives of excellence and development of talent, and for the desire to involve the territory, thanks to live events in which the candidates will be the protagonists; they will give to the competition the breath of a music festival. In this edition, candidates will be able to request, upon registration, to be hosted by families in Minerbio who will make themselves available for this purpose, for the entire period of the competition. The Competition and the Festival are held annually and are reserved only for solo pianists, not older than twenty-six years of age (max. twenty-seven years old on October 1st, 2024). We are proud to announce that our competition has been accepted as a member of EMCY and of Alink-Argerich Foundation, demonstrating the artistic level achieved in previous years and confirming the reliability of our commitment to the future in this sector.

  • The competition is divided into 4 categories divided by age (I up to 17 years, II up to 20 years, III up to 23 years, IV up to 26 years). Each category includes two live rehearsals on stage (first round, second round) with compulsory pieces. The registration will be possible from May 1 to September 6, 2024 the deadline.
  • The festival is divided into 6 categories (Cat. First notes up to 6 years, Cat. Junior up to 8 years, Cat. A up to 10 years, Cat. B up to 12 years, Cat. C up to 14 years, Cat. D up to 16 years). Every category includes one round with compulsory pieces. The registration will be possible from May 1 to September 6, 2024 the deadline.
  • Jackpot € 7.500

 

RUNNING OF THE EVENT.

The Competition and the Festival will take place from October 1-6, 2024, at the "Teatro Minerva” - Minerbio (BO). There will be Masterclasses and concerts played by the Professors, concerts by candidates and an opening ceremony, on a date that will be decided soon. All the auditions will be open to the public and regulated by the NO COVID rules.

The concert calendar of the performances will be published on the website www.minerbiopianocompetition.it and http://www.comune.minerbio.bo.it/  On Semptember 14, 2024.

During the entire period of the competition, there will be pianos made available to the competitors for studying, that can be booked at the time of the registration. During the days of the event, candidates who have given previous availability will perform in concerts in the area (membership must be given together with the registration form and you can request information about places and times directly from the secretariat, on the day of arrival, immediately after check-in). The event will end on October 6, day of the winners' concert.

AGE CATEGORIES AND REPERTOIRE.

The Competition is articulated in 4 categories, divided by age (I up to 17 years of age, II up to 20 years of age, III up to 23 years of age, IV up to 26 years of age). Each category includes two live rounds on stage (first round, second round) with obligatory repertoire. For the Competition is possible to register from May 1 to Semptember 6. Registrations could close before the deadline when the limit of 70 members is reached. No more than 10 candidates will be selected and admitted for each category.

Cat. I: up to 17 years of age

Two rounds: first round, second round.

The first round will have a duration of 8 minutes and a free program but must include a piece from the Baroque period or the Classical period *.

The second round will have a duration of 15 minutes and a free program but must include a piece from the Romantic period and cannot include any piece performed in the first round.

Cat. II: up to 20 years of age

Two rounds: first round, second round.

The first round will have a duration of 8 minutes and a free program but must include a piece from the Baroque period or the Classical period * and a concert studio.

The second round will have a duration of 20 minutes and a free program but must include a piece from the Romantic period and cannot include any piece performed in the first round.

Cat. III: up to 23 years of age

Two rounds: first round, second round.

The first round will have a duration of 10 minutes and free program but must include a piece from the Baroque period or the Classical period * and a concert studio.

The second round will have a duration of 25 minutes and a free program but must include a piece from the Romantic period and cannot include any piece performed in the first round.

Cat. IV: up to 26 years of age

Two rounds: first round, second round.

The first round will have a duration of 10 minutes and a free program but must include a piece from the Baroque period or the Classical period * and a concert studio.

The second round will have a duration of 30 minutes and a free program but must include a piece from the Romantic period and cannot include any piece performed in the first round.

ANNOTATION

*By the Baroque period or Classical period we mean:

Pieces by Bach, Haendel, Scarlatti, Rameau or other compositors of the same period (single pieces of Suites, Partite, etc. are included too)

Or

Pieces by Haydn, Mozart, Clementi, Beethoven or other compositors of the same period, a tempo of a sonatina, or of a Sonata, Rondò, Tema and Variazioni etc.

 

ENTRY FEES AND OSPITALITY.

Registration for the "International Competition for Young Pianists" can only be done online, using the format on the site from May 1 to September 6; 2024. Registrations could close before the deadline when the limit of 70 members is reached.

RECEPTION.

Candidates must register the day before or at least two hours before their category at the theater headquarters (precise details will be given by email to all members). The rehearsal timetable and the alphabetical order of the candidates will be published on the website starting September 14, 2024. All candidates are required to dress appropriately during the selections and the winners must perform at the awards concert in a concert dress.

 

THE JURY.

The jury is made up of renowned teachers and pianists. The five jurors are totally free from didactic relationships with the candidates (no didactic relationship for at least two years), for this purpose the jurors will sign a specific declaration. Relatives of the jury will not be able to participate in the competition. The jury is composed of: RICCARDO RISALITI (president of the jury), OXANA YABLONSKAYA (Usa), OLIVER KERN (Germany), AKEMI ALINK (Japan), RUBEN DALIBALTAYAN (Croatia).

Artistic direction: Prof.ssa Luisa Grillo.

EVALUATIONS.

The evaluations will be expressed in twenty-fifths and will be inserted directly into the computer immediately at the end of the executions, so that an objective mathematical average emerges. The results will be communicated at the end of each category. The overall winner of the competition and the winners of the special prizes will be announced after the audition of all categories and must perform at the winners' concert. The votes of all categories will be made public at the end of the competition on the website http://minerbiopianocompetition.it.

 

PRIZES.

For each category, participation diplomas, diplomas of merit, third prizes, second prizes and first prizes will be awarded, according to the mathematical score achieved. Ex aequo prizes may be awarded. The absolute winner of the category, who will receive a scholarship, will be the one who has achieved the highest score, without prejudice to the achievement of an adequate artistic level (they will not be assigned ex aequo for the absolute first prize).
